Vinod Mehra was an accomplished Bollywood actor remembered for his charming and subtle roles on the silver screen. Vinod Mehra gave outstanding performances in the films "Anuraag", "Ghar" and "Swarag Narak".
Along with lead roles Vinod Mehra also did secondary lead and supporting roles in many films. His daughter Soniya Mehra is also a Bollywood actress.
Personal Life:
Vinod Mehra was born in 1945 in Amritsar, Punjab. His interest in acting led him to pursue his career in films and he started his film career as a child actor. Vinod Mehra was married thrice. His first marriage was with Meena Broca but that never flourished as he suffered a heart attack. While still married to Meena, Vinod married actress Bindiya Goswami. The couple however, got divorced and Vinod married Kiran with whom he had two children Soniya and Rohan. Sonia followed her father's footstep and is an actress now.
Professional Career:
Vinod Mehra debuted as a child actor in the 1958 film "Raagni". He stared as an adult with Tanuja in the 1971 film "Ek Thi Rita". The films that followed were "Parday Ke Peechhay", "Elaan", "Amar Prem", "Lal Patthar". The film that established Vinod Mehra as an actor per excellence was Shakti Samanta's "Anuraag" opposite actress Maushmi Chatterjee. Vinod Mehra also won accolades for his performance in the film ‘Ghar’, opposite Rekha. His acting in ‘Swarag Narak’ is also remembered for his outstanding performance.
Vinod Mehra acted in over 100 films in his career spanning over three decades and worked with famous co-stars including Rekha, Maushmi Chatterjee, Yogeeta Bali, Shabana Azmi, Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Sanjeev Kumar, Rajesh Khanna and Sunil Dutt. Some of the prominent films of Vinod Mehra were were Jaani Dushman, Nagin, Ghar, Kartavya, Swarg Narak, Saajan Bina Suhagan, Ek Hi Raasta, Jurmana, Anurodh, Amar Deep, Bemisal and Khud-Daar. He also acted in the Punjabi film "Maujaan Dubai Diyaan".
Apart from leading roles Vinod Mehra also did secondary lead and supporting roles and was acclaimed for them. Vinod Mehra also produced and directed the film "Gurudev" but died before the completion of the film and director Raj Sippy completed the film later. Other delayed films of Vinod Mehra are "Patthar Ke Phool", "Insaniyat" and "Aurat Aurat Aurat".
Ill Health and Death:
Vinod Mehra died of a heart attack on October 30, 1990 at the age of 45 and is survived by two children.
